I had a nickel 1

I had a nickel and I walked around the block.
I walked right into a baker shop.
I took two doughnuts right out of the grease.
I handed the lady my five-cent piece.
She looked at the nickel and she looked at me
And said, "This money's no good to me.
There's a hole in the nickel and it goes right through!"
Says I, "There's a hole in the doughnut too!"

Traduction:

J'avais un cinq cents (5 ¢)

J'avais un cinq cents et j'ai fait le tour du quartier
Je suis entré dans une boulangerie
J'ai pris deux beignes fraîchement cuits
J'ai donné ma pièce de cinq cents à la dame
Elle a regardé mon cinq cents, et elle m'a regardé
Et elle a dit: "Cet argent ne vaut rien pour moi.
Il y a un trou dans le cinq cents, et ça passe à travers!"
J'ai dit: "Il y a un trou dans le beigne aussi!"

Un élève de troisième année récitant un poème qu'il présentera au "Speech Festival" le mois prochain. Lui et deux collègues de sa classe viennent me voir tous les midis depuis un mois pour se pratiquer. J'avais lancé la suggestion à tous les élèves participants (une cinquantaine en tout), et ces trois-là ont été les seuls à répondre à l'appel.
